What is a Groq API key and how do I get one?

Groq provides free AI inference. Go to console.groq.com, create a free account, and generate an API key. Paste it into the extension's settings page. No credit card required.

Is my audio data safe?

Yes. Audio is recorded locally in your browser and sent directly to Groq's API for transcription. We never see, store, or process your audio. The extension has no backend server.

Does it work with Preply's classroom?

Yes. Lesson Transcriber works with any browser-based video call, including Preply's custom classroom, italki, Cambly, Google Meet, and Zoom's web client.

Can it handle long lessons?

Yes. The extension automatically chunks audio into segments to handle lessons of any length. It's been tested with 50+ minute sessions.

Does my student/tutor know I'm recording?

The extension records locally — there's no notification sent to the other person. Please check your local laws and platform terms regarding recording consent.

What happens if I close the popup during recording?

Recording continues in the background. You'll see a small "REC" indicator on the page. Open the extension popup again to see the timer and stop when ready.
